This image was taken in Canary Wharf at the Roof Garden which sits above the Canary Wharf station, part of Crossrail – one of the greatest engineering projects of the 21st Century. It celebrates some of the plants that were brought to London from faraway lands by intrepid explorers in merchant ships. The Roof Garden is designed to evoke a ship laden with unusual and exotic specimens from around the globe.

What is your favourite sustainable place in London?
My favourite sustainable place in London is the cycling infrastructure network. I love jumping on a bike alongside the Bromptons, hire bikes, electric cargo bikes, e-scooters, party bikes and tuk-tuks to enjoy the city views and feel refreshed at the end.
What most excites you about the future of sustainability in London?
In my 15 years with London & Partners, I have been passionate about promoting London as a place to visit, experience, set up or grow your business. From the success of the Olympic Games legacy to new infrastructure such as the Elizabeth Line, London is constantly adapting and innovating to ensure its sustainability for the future. The Mayor of London’s ambitious targets to make London net zero carbon by 2030 provides us all with a goal to aim for and drives our thinking and behaviour.
Whether you’re the UK’s first rooftop forest, the Earthshot prize winning sustainable packaging company or an innovative tech company or investor expanding here from around the world, I am excited that London can provide a welcoming, diverse, creative environment where you can maximise your success and we can impact climate change together.

What is your favourite sustainable place in London?
St Dunstan in the East Church Garden, often referred to as the most beautiful gardens in the City of London. It was a Church of England parish church on St Dunstan's Hill, halfway between London Bridge and the Tower of London. The church was largely destroyed in the Second World War and the ruins are now a public garden in the middle of the bustling City of London.
What most excites you about the future of sustainability in London?
London is already a global leader in renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable mass transit - the three pillars of the city's ambitious net zero plan. About 40% of the entire Greater London area consists of parks and green spaces. London boasts one of the greatest sustainable mass public transportation networks in the world and has invested in diesel-electric hybrid buses for CO2 reduction; along with a few other types of alternative fuel buses. About half of the buses in London either run on biofuel-diesel blends, are hybrid, or are 100% electric. It is a world leader in green buildings and has a strong circular economy.
London recognizes the importance of climate change and sustainability, and this can be seen in the way people live their daily lives. The sheer volume of ambition and innovation -in the Government, businesses and the people- to be more sustainable energises and inspires me.
Why should sustainability companies choose London now?
The Mayor of London’s ambitious target of net zero carbon emissions by 2030 opens considerable opportunities for innovation. To retain London’s position as one of the world leaders in this area, the Government is committed towards providing the right regulatory and policy framework, opportunity, talent, ecosystem, lifestyle and other incentives to encourage innovation and creativity.

Why should sustainability companies choose London now?
From innovative startups to high growth companies, London is home to a large family of purpose driven companies focused on tackling climate change and promoting sustainability. With supportive city-led green initiatives, access to high levels of growth funding and a thriving ecosystem for building networks, London has emerged as a top destination to grow and scale a sustainable business.
London is also championing sustainability at a city level, with ambitious targets to reach net zero by 2030. Supportive business initiatives include the Mayor of London’s investment in green projects, work to slash transport emissions as well as reinvigorate the recycling industry with ReLondon, helping to make the city an ideal place to start and scale sustainable business. In addition, the City of London’s recent 2021 Global Green Finance Index (GGFI) named London as the third best global centre for green finance based on public, private and non-profit investment in sustainable development projects. Plus, London has several supportive hubs that are perfect to support and encourage companies' sustainability credentials over the next few decades.

What is your favourite sustainable place in London?
We’re lucky to enjoy so many green spaces in London, but if I had to pick one: Manor House Gardens. Local to me, this is where I’ll often spend my lunch breaks. It’s a wonderfully tranquil park with a strong sense of community.
What most excites you about the future of sustainability in London?
For me it’s regeneration projects taking place across the city. These projects, many of which have sustainability goals at their core, will help bring communities closer together and create opportunities for local residents and businesses. The regeneration of Kings Cross/Coal Drops Yard and plans for Catford to become the greenest town centre in London spring to mind.
Why should sustainability companies choose London now?
London has some of the most ambitious sustainability targets of any city in the world. To meet these goals, collaboration with businesses providing innovative solutions to sustainability challenges are needed. By setting up in London now, you have the chance to capitalise on this opportunity and be a part of its journey to a more sustainable future.

What is your favourite sustainable place in London?
London is redefining what the next generation of megacities looks like by revitalizing its existing spaces. The Standard hotel is one of my favourite examples of how in London, new technologies meet existing developments to create positive impact across industries.
What most excites you about the future of sustainability in London?
With the UK's ban on gasoline and diesel vehicle sales approaching in 2030, and the Mayor's goal for 80% of all trips in London to be completed by walking, biking, or public transportation by 2041, I'm most excited about the future of sustainable mobility and the opportunities for achieving a more accessible and connected city.
Why should North American sustainability companies choose London now?
London is Europe’s leading ecosystem for sustainable technologies, with more companies addressing UNSDGs, more VC rounds raised by climate tech startups, and more total VC funding than any other city. With a rigorous push to reach net zero carbon by 2030, there is tremendous opportunity for North American technology pioneers to help build London’s sustainable future.
